WELCOME All

This is my first ever blog and the first time I’ve been a member of the cancer club. Being me I have dived in at the “advanced” end of the cancer scale, which means I am expecting some difficult times ahead as well as good ones. There is a history to all of this of course, which I will get to in future posts, but right now I am trying to get my blog alive before I go to my induction group prior to starting chemotherapy.

So at the moment I am anxious and curioius as to what will happen but look forward to sharing the experience with you. To date my experince of the medical profession has been interesting. They seem to be nice people but all think they have to instill hope into me and cannot resist telling me about their favourite person who is still sky diving at the age of 84 having been diagnosed 20 years ago. Unfortunatley for them I can read. The NICE guidelines and reviews of the research literature is a little more realistic.

Its 76 days, or two cell division cycles since my diagnosis, so I am understandably eager to be geting on with things. Tomorow is a significant step forward.

I am already having treatment that reduces the testosterone in my body that so far has reduced my PSA from 149 to 4.9 (yippeee) but induced hot flushes like a menaupausal woman (Boooo). I now know why the window was open at night in the depths of winter when my partner reached that time of life.

I have lots to share, including a holiday experience in Jamaica that started all this off, but for now I cross my fingers and hope that I have got this blogging thing under way right.

Obvs can’t actually speak for everyone – but hope I do when I say it will be the strangest privilege to be on this journey with you Roland – in spirit, every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to ask for whatever you need at any time. With love, Jo xxx

Gosh, Roland, you are brave – starting a blog and joining the cancer club (not quite the same sort of bravery as the former was voluntary and the latter wasn’t). This is your first blog and this is the first blog I’ve followed so I’m just leaving this comment to see if it works….Di x

Hi Roland, good to see you blogging, and I look forward to hearing how you are dealing with all this -none of us know when it could be our turn!
And hearing your experience is of course a reminder that we all only really have now.
    See you soon x
