CHEMO DAY 66

CYCLE 4 DAY 3

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN

I woke this morning determined to rest today and to eat plain food and drink water after my upset stomach yesterday. I did take my temperature before sleeping last night just to check I did not have an infection. I was spot on 36.4c and therefore well healthy, so just an upset stomach was the cause of my discomfort. I retrieved my phone and Kindle and settled down to a leisurely skip through my e-mails and dozed. It was the need to eat that got me up. I made myself one of my favourite “get my right” foods, triple fried egg sandwich! Works every time and did not let me down. A morning of pottering around and being absolutely lazy until I realised that this was the first of this cycles self stab days. In getting the stab stick out of the fridge to warm up and setting out the paraphernalia of the process I realised that my alcohol wipes had dried out. A trip to the chemist was needed, so once I had self stabbed I went into the village for new swabs and returned with a paper, tins of soup, buns, and mince pies. I also sneaked in a bar of Fry’s chocolate mint cream as a kind of comforter. I lazed more and took calls from friends and chatted happily till it was time to cook dinner and begin to watch football on TV. So once my partner returned, we ate, I watched football and she had her session with her singing teacher.

That’s it, a day of doing nothing, not thinking about work or the meaning of life or even reading anything. Just some random net surfing looking for inspiration for Christmas presents. So far chocolate coins and a few gift bags are my haul. I need to get inspired. Tomorrow is a gym day, it depends on the weather how quickly I and make the effort. Now its an early night to try and hit my sleep goal. It seems that being on an island with the sea is more conducive to rest and recuperation than a desert. Good choice.

The island of cancer in a health sea of life.
